Indonesia's ministries coordinate preparations for holiday travel

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Transportation and Ministry of Manpower have moved to strengthen cooperation to support safe and convenient travel during the 2026 Christmas and 2027 New Year holiday period.

Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi confirmed that he had met with Manpower Minister Yassierli on Thursday (Nov. 5).

"We discussed preparations for Christmas and New Year transportation operations and cooperation in improving transportation safety," he said in Jakarta on Friday.

Purwagandhi added that Thursday's meeting also touched on a proposal to implement a work-from-anywhere (WFA) scheme, reviewed the previous year-end transportation operations, and underscored the need for stronger coordination in promoting transportation safety to the public.

Regarding the WFA proposal, the Transportation Ministry suggested implementing the scheme on selected dates to help ease traffic congestion during the expected surge in holiday travel.

"Since this pertains to labor affairs, we felt it was necessary to discuss it with him," he said.

The two ministers also explored ways to strengthen coordination on transportation safety, with Purwagandhi emphasizing the need for stronger regulatory measures and tighter oversight in the field.

"Praise be to God, the discussion went quite well, and I am pleased to continue strengthening these efforts through sound synergy between the two ministries," he said.

The Ministry of Transportation has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening coordination with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that year-end transportation operations run safely and smoothly.

The commitment is reflected in plans to establish an integrated transportation command post to help manage the projected surge in holiday travel from Dec. 18, 2026, to Jan. 6, 2027.

The post will serve as a coordination and monitoring center for stakeholders, enabling swift responses to potential disruptions affecting traffic flow and transportation services.
